What a year 2012 was for Heirloom Magazine! This past year saw our dream evolve and grow into something better than we ever could have hoped for, thanks to every single one of you who supported us!

Back in September 2011, it started with a photo shoot and an idea. We had a dream - to bring vintage-focused local inspiration to the Vancouver Wedding Market in an interactive and educational format.

In 2012, the result was Heirloom, a vintage wedding magazine filled with DIY tutorials, expert tips from real married couples, interviews with local vendors, inspirational editorial spreads featuring local and international real weddings… all showcasing the very best of Vancouver’s vintage wedding industry.

In the words of Chief Dreamer, Jeanie Ow, this is how the magazine was born -

“I met Kailey-Michelle in 2011 whilst photographing a wedding she was coordinating. At around the same time, I had been thinking more and more about doing a photo shoot focused on vintage brides and decor, and her style seemed to fit what I was hoping to shoot. We met in late October for lunch, and started planning the details for the shoot. As we chatted, Kailey asked me how I wanted to present the shoot, and I discovered that I really wanted to put it out there to the brides who are planning their own nuptials that putting together a wedding that is vintage-focused is really quite easy.

The first idea was an educational PDF that I wanted to distribute free of charge to anybody who wanted to read about planning a vintage-focused wedding. We brought Tammy in for the invitations, and she was the natural choice for laying out the design of the PDF. It was in February when, after we had looked at the resulting images from Farm Love, that we thought the results of the shoot could be more than just one PDF. Hence, the magazine was born! The original name of the magazine was Darling, but since that was taken, we decided on Heirloom.”

Here are some of our year’s biggest highlights:

We ran our front cover contest on April 5^th, 2012

We attended the Vancouver Wedding Industry Meet-up on April 30^th, 2012 where we received a very warm welcome and much anticipation from the local community.

We launched Heirloom Magazine’s inaugural issue on May 1^st, 2012

Heirloom Magazine started blogging daily on May 22^nd, 2012 

At the end of May, we also became an editorial partner with Two Bright Lights.

Our first official business cards on July 4th, 2012! Thanks to the vision of our very own Tammy Lyon of Uniquity Designs.

Our featured vendors received Heirloom Badges to put onto their own sites on July 17^th, 2012. Yay!

On July 24^th, 2012, we announced our first Styled Engagement Session Contest.

And on September 14^th, 2012 we announced the release of our second issue … sneak peak here in case you missed it!

Work commenced on our next issue with loads of new and creative inspirations, like this 50′s housewife inspired shoot, featuring Alicia-Rae making homemade lemon curd on September 30^th, 2012.

On October 1^st, 2012 we switched from Skype to Google Hangout for our meetings.

The Heirloom team expanded and hired intern, Alicia-Rae on October 15^th, 2012 (Click here for Q&A)

On November 15^th, 2012 we announced and opened pre-registration for advertising in our Winter Issue.

On December 4^th, 2012  we updated our team headshots with the ever-so-wonderful Shari + Mike Photographers. Full feature in our next issue!
